Audie Murphy Bio: Audie Leon Murphy was born June 20, 1924. And Audie Murphy was Died May 28, 1971. Audie Murphy was the most decorated soldier of World War II America and a famous movie star for over two decades in the post-war period, appearing in 44 films . He also found some success as a composer of country music.
Murphy became the most decorated U.S. soldier of the war for 27 months in action in the European theater. He received the Medal of Honor, the highest honor the U.S. military for valor, along with 32 other U.S. and foreign medals and citations, five from France and one in Belgium.
Murphy's career included successful film To Hell and Back (1955), based on his book of the same title (1949). He died in a plane crash in 1971 and was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
