RAWALPINDI: The assassin of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, Mumtaz Qadri has confessed before a judicial magistrate of committing the crime after attending a religious gathering in Rawalpindi, Geo News reported Monday.
According to the sources, Malik Mumtaz Qadri confessed of killing the governor before the judge. He told the magistrate that he had decided to kill the governor after attending a religious gathering in Rawalpindi where the speaker said that Salman Taseer had committed blasphemy.
"He has recorded his confessional statement for the murder... in which he said that he killed Salman Taseer on his own and there was no involvement of any Islamic or militant organisation," a senior police official said.
The police have sought arrest warrants of two other men, Qari Hanif and Syed Ishtiaq Shah. Both of them run a madressah in Rawalpindi and belonged to Attock.
